19th Century Painting, Horse in a Stable by May Burton
This charming oil on canvas was painted by Miss May Burton in the 19th century.
May Burton was almost certainly a travelling painter going from farm to farm painting the farmer's favourite animals, earning her keep, a hot meal and a bed for the night before moving on the next day.
This working horse, seems to me, to have been washed down, brushed up and ribbons tied into his tail, and taken to a country fair where he won a prize.
The painting is in its original frame and signed on the back.
