Alanda Leather Suite by Paolo Piva for B&B Italia, Sofas and Armchair
A very stylish suite designed by Paolo Piva and made in Italy by B&B Italia in the 1980s.
It is very rare to find such a large suite of furniture.
The suite is very comfortable because of the innovative design feature - the adjustable backs and arm rests. They can be ratcheted up or down, independently to suit the comfort or style you want. See photos 5 and 6.
Watching a long film with your feet up and resting your head would be very pleasant.
Paolo Piva is a prominent Italian architect and industrial designer, who has designed many pieces for B&B and other manufacturers.
Born in Adria, Italy in 1950, Piva went on to study architecture at the International University of the Arts in Venice and worked at the Instituto de Architecture in the same city, helping to assemble an exhibition of social architecture.
One of his first major projects was to design the Qatar Embassy in 1980, garnering Piva international attention and acclaim.
He was then asked to design the B&B Italian factory at Misinto, the Poliform factories in Arosio, Inverigo, Lurago, and the Wittmann factory in Austria.
Among his most famous furniture pieces is the notable Alanda Pyramid Table, a design which places a glass surface atop inverted pyramids for legs.
In 1995, Paolo had solo exhibitions at the Architectural Gallery of Munich and the Gallery Ulysses at Vienna, and in 1996 he participated at the VI Mostra internazionale di Architettura della Biennale di Buenos Aires.
He divides his time between Vienna and Venice.
The suite has very simple clean lines, and is well engineered. It is covered in a mid brown leather, that is soft and hard wearing.
The suite with the glass and lucite coffee table (shown in the last two photos), came from a London warehouse apartment. The table is also available.
The suite comprises:
Extra long sofa - 255 cm wide, 105 cm deep and 72 cm high. Seat at 43 cm.
Long sofa - 205 cm wide.
Armchair - 120 cm wide.
The legs can easily be removed if needed for ease of manoeuvring with the use of a hex key.
Delivery can be arranged to any part of the country. As a guide, delivery to London and most parts of England would be £195. We use an experienced carrier that is well used to moving antique furniture with the appropriate care. Collection is, of course, welcome.
