Classic Harry Bertoia 'Diamond' Chair in Blue, Rare
This is the iconic chair by the sculptor and furniture designer - Harry Bertoia.
It is known as the diamond chair and was designed in 1952. I bought it from a family house where all the furniture was from the mid twentieth century, they were lovers of art, sculpture and architecture, with bookcases full of art books to match their interests. Because of the age of the chair I have every reason to believe it was made by Knoll International.
The seat pad is of black leather, and is removable if wished. The condition is good for its years, there is a small welding repair to one of the sides.
The Knoll website quotes:
The graceful Diamond Chair is an astounding study in space, form and function by one of the master sculptors of the last century. Like Saarinen and Mies, Bertoia found sublime grace in an industrial material, elevating it beyond its normal utility into a work of art.
