Large Oil on Canvas by Ian Humphreys, Blue
Ian Humphreys was born in Hertfordshire in 1956. He studied at Exeter College of Art, gaining a BA (Hons) Fine Art Painting in 1979. Ian moved to Ireland in 1999 and now lives and works on Heir Island, West Cork.
Working in oil on canvas the process involves building up and taking off, wiping and scratching the paint. The action is quick but the paintings are slow to make.
Since 1979, Ian has exhibited widely both nationally and internationally, including the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and the Hunting Prize, winning 2nd prize in 1998. He has also been represented at art fairs throughout the world. His most recent solo exhibitions have been at the Hallward Gallery, Dublin. His work is in countless prestigious private and public collections, including Allied Irish Bank, Coopers & Lybrand, Glaxo Smithkline, Trinity College (University of Cambridge) and Office of Public Works (Dublin)
