Robert Heritage Rosewood Sideboard
This is a superb quality rosewood sideboard, made in the 1960s.
The refined proportions, the simple and restrained lines, the placement of the legs and the superb quality of the workmanship, makes me confident that the design is by Robert Heritage and the cabinet making by Archie Shine.
The sideboard features three slender oak lined drawers with fittings for cutlery and removable trays, below are cupboards with spaces and shelves for bottles, glasses, etc. The doors have sprung push catches, another typical Heritage detail.
The cabinet stands firm on short square sectioned legs set at the four corners, in my opinion, so more attractive than offset from the end, like most sideboards from this era.
The quality of the carpentry is outstanding, and again, unusual for the time, the drawers are jointed with handmade dovetails. Solid rosewood is used where possible and for strength and veneers are used for creating repeating patterns along the front and top. The brass handles are clean lined and stylish. The only alteration is a realignment of a shelf in one of the cupboards.
The sideboard is in remarkably good condition, it has been cleaned and waxed.
